Job Summary:


The Business Development Specialist is responsible for engaging new inbound leads, educating them on the firm's tax, accounting, and fractional CFO services, and conducting the initial Client Consultation to determine fit. This role nurtures early-stage prospects, identifies pain points, and guides qualified businesses to the Document Request stage for quotes on tax or accounting services. The ideal candidate excels at opening conversations with business owners generating $5M+ who seek financial clarity, cash flow oversight, forecasting, and higher-level advisory beyond basic CPA work. 

The Business Development Specialist (BDS) serves as the strategic "opener" for the consultative sales journey. This role is responsible for managing the top of the funnel—engaging inbound leads, educating prospects on our high-level advisory services, and conducting initial Client Consultations to determine fit. The BDS identifies financial pain points for the prospective client and guides qualified prospects through the education phase to the Document Request stage.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Engagement & Initial Consultation

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inbound leads, outbound efforts, and face-to-face meetings.

  • Conduct structured Client Consultations to identify urgent needs such as tax inefficiencies, cash flow issues, or lack of financial visibility.

  • Educate prospects on the value of fractional CFO services beyond basic CPA functions.

Pipeline Management & Qualification

  • Qualify prospects based on revenue size ($5M+), industry, and operational maturity.

  • Facilitate the transition of qualified prospects to the Document Request stage for tax and accounting quotes.

  • Execute nurture steps in alignment with the company’s Follow-Up System (strategic calls and email sequences).

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Maintain meticulous CRM documentation, capturing pain points, goals, and context.

  • Partner closely with Sales Specialists and Advanced Sales Specialists (AdSS) to maintain a seamless transition for the prospect.

  • Participate in collaborative troubleshooting to improve qualification accuracy and funnel efficiency.

Skills & Experience

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience: Proven success in business development, inside sales, or client onboarding.

  • Technical Literacy: Ability to explain tax planning, bookkeeping systems, and cash flow management in accessible, professional terms.

  • System Knowledge: Experience with CRM platforms and structured sales sequences.

Competencies

  • Polished written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to manage multiple leads simultaneously with disciplined follow-up.

  • Strong ability to assess a business owner’s financial situation quickly.
